Italian Health System (S.S.N.) doesn't take in account technology innovations of the last 30 years: carbon fiber and DER feet were been invented in the 70s. Il "Nomenclatore Tariffario" (N.T.), a list of device supplied for free from the SSN, was been updated in 1999 and the only prosthetic foot totally covered is the SACH, made of wood with a steel keel, which guarantees a very low performance. The NT covers just 1/3 of the cost for an electronic knee, C-Leg, 6.000€ against 20.000€; the same device is fully supplied in Germany, Austria, France etc. The SSN cover only 1.425€ for ultra-light wheelchairs, whose cost is at least 2.500€, because of this paraplegic and tetraplegic people buy steel wheelchairs, heavier(15 Kg) than the ultra-light ones(3 Kg). These are just few examples to make people understand that Health's Right is guaranteed just to wealthy people, who can't buy this aids must walk with a Sach foot, a mechanical knee or use a steel wheelchair.
In this context was born Roadrunnerfoot Engineering srl, on Daniele Bonacini own initiative, to safeguard disable people's rights and allow to everybody the access to technology and performance aids with low impact on pockets.
